You wanna talk about nerd rage: after simmering for years, I made a YouTube video railing against the epilogue of Batman Beyond. Final running time: 40 minutes.

I will argue it isn't a new phenomenon, though. That we do it over fiction, sure. But those fictional characters resonate with us because they symbolize something real and profound and dare I say esoteric. To those who are post-religious especially, those silly modern things just become the new religion, Funko Pops the icons and shrines. And ruining it is HERESY. BLASPHEMY! To those of us who see a dim reflection of God in our favorite fiction, there is a bit of a similar pang. Something beautiful has been killed.
