When the female character who commits the cardinal sin you mentioned shouts what she shouts, I literally leaned forward in my seat and said “oh shit, here we go!” and then a few seconds later it all fell apart in a mish-mash of badly shot action.
I had a moment of similar surprised anticipation, but it brought on immediate fridge logic. "Wait, that rule was all that was keeping these people alive. Are they really all about to just die? That would be hardcore, if on-brand for a horror film that really wants to push the audience hard. But ... Oh. Oh dear. Oh come on."
